History of Minuteman Athletic Training
The first Athletic Trainer, Amber Burson was hired in the fall of 2007 and the Athletic Training program began in May of 2008. A large fundraising effort went into the initial start up costs of the training room with community members, the Booster Club and the L-Club donating money to fund the facility and equipment used today.
In August of 2009, the Lexington High School Athletic Training Department partnered with the University of Nebraska @ Kearney to serve as an internship host site for UNK Athletic Training students. This partnership continues today and LHS has one to two internship students each semester. At the same time in August of 2009, the Intro to Athletic Training class began and the first group of LHS Student Athletic Trainers completed the course. The class is a semester in length, so each year since 2009, two groups of Student Athletic Trainers have completed the course and have helped the Athletic Training staff.
In August of 2012, an Assistant Athletic Trainer, Marni Baker was added to the Athletic Training staff at LHS. In the Spring of 2014, Marni took another position within the school system. In the Spring of 2015, Amber Burson took a full-time teaching position within the school system and Adam Bretschneider was hired to take over the Athletic Training Program while Amber Burson continues to help with some Athletic Training coverage.
